About us

Metis LLC is a small, but diversified producer and internet retailer located in central North Carolina. Our publishing arm (Tellus Books) publishes visual learning tools and spiritually oriented books. Our software development efforts are directed at the production of visual learning tools. The first of these (Woody Plants of the Southeastern United States) has been published through Missouri Botanical Garden Press and is available through their website or, at a discount, from us directly.

The name "Athena's Bookshelf" was chosen because Athena is one of the mascots of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where one of the owners works. Metis was the Greek Titan who was the mother of Athena. She was swallowed by Zeus because he feared a prophecy that she would bear a son more powerful than himself. Their daughter, Athena, was later "born" full grown from Zeus' head.
